Going behind the scenes of the Casting Workshop of the RmnGP, - workshop labeled S Label France know-how of excellence and Label Entreprise du patrimoine vivant (EPV)-, is to discover artisanal practices and the secrets of making antique pieces, New and modern made to last, like works of art and made available to museums, institutions and individuals.
With over two centuries of experience, the Atelier de Moulage - created by the Louvre within it - preserves and operates a collection of more than 12,000 moulds and models from the major French and European collections. It combines artisanal practices and cutting-edge techniques: from the manufacture of a traditional mould to fingerprinting by digitization. Visitors, throughout the course, will be explained the different steps necessary to make a molding: from the cast to the expert realization of the skates, know-how recognized worldwide.

The Ateliers d'Art de la Réunion des musées nationaux — Grand Palais (Rmn-GP) brings together the Louvre’s moulding and chalcography workshops. Created within the Louvre, one year after the opening of the museum in 1794, the Atelier de Moulage was created to produce plaster reproductions to complement the museum’s collections and to feed the French fine arts schools. He later sold his productions to other institutions and individuals in France and abroad. Since its creation, the workshop has enriched its collections with works from the French and European collections to preserve and operate a collection of more than 6,000 models ranging from prehistory to the 20th century. Created in the same period, the chalcography workshop preserves 14,000 engraved copper plates deposited by the Louvre Museum. This collection created since Louis XIV and constantly enriched with new contemporary creations illustrates some of the greatest moments in the history of France and Europe by original engravi
