Lecture with broken sticks, presented and played by François Rostain and Pierre Berçot.

Today an Olympic sport taught from an early age, fencing was first and foremost the art of defence and its history closely reflects that of our societies. Weapons and combat techniques have evolved together, from the primitive club to the elegant foil, through the sword, a mythical weapon among all. If the duel was a murderous practice, in theatre the art of combat becomes a practice of illusionist in the service of an authentic dramatic action: this is what makes its charm and fascination, but also all its difficulty. From Duel to Scene offers to tell this rich story and deliver, weapons in hand, the best kept secrets.

The collection of the Cognacq-Jay Museum was collected between 1900 and 1925 by businessman Ernest Cognacq and his wife Marie-Louise Jay. Founder of the Samaritan department stores, Cognacq devoted part of his fortune to the acquisition of works of art. He donated this collection to the City of Paris in 1928\. The museum presents a set of paintings, sculptures, furniture and art objects of the eighteenth century (Chardin, Fragonard, Greuze, Lemoyne, Oeben, Saly...). Formerly presented boulevard des Capucines, the collection was transferred in 1990 to a mansion in the Marais built at the end of the sixteenth century for Médéric de Donon, general controller of the royal buildings.
