Proposed by the association Autres Brésils as part of the Heritage Days, this program presents four Brazilian documentary short films highlighting various cinematographic forms to represent some realities of this country-continent. A selection of films that will also allow the public to discover the poetics of a cinema in permanent reinvention.
The association Autres Brésils aims to decipher Brazilian society through the analysis of political, social and environmental issues. Every year for the past 19 years, it has hosted a festival of Brazilian documentary films. It aims to enable a French-speaking public to discover a plural Brazil and to create bridges between French and Brazilian societies. This selection includes films presented during the Brazil in Motion festival.
The films:

  • Call the quilombola (Disc quilombola, David Reeks, 13')
In the state of Espirito Santo, two groups of children dialogue about life. One comes from a slum in Vitória, the other from a Quilombola community, villages founded by brown slaves. Through a simple game, the two groups express themselves on their roots and understand that they have more in common than differences.
  • Crossing (Travessia, Safira Moreira, 2016, 5’)
From photographs of white families, the black population tries to recreate its own archives.
  • Amazonian jumps (Saltos amazônicos, Liana Amin and Igor Amin, 7')
Children are having fun jumping off a boat in the Rio Negro, a game very common among the inhabitants of the region. They interact in a contagious way with the waters and the symbolism of this relationship, together with their spontaneity, gives life to an abandoned boat on the shore. Shot in black and white, the film incorporates colors in an original way, causing a special visual impact. A beautiful film evoking the joie de vivre of Brazilian children in a breathtaking natural setting.
  • God (Deus, Vinícius Silva, 2016, 25')
The routine of Roseli, a black woman from the suburbs of São Paulo who looks after her son Breno alone.

Since 1971, the Brazilian embassy in Paris has occupied a mansion that belonged to the Schneider family, industrialists of the Creusot steel industry. Located in a protected area of a historic monument, within an urban complex listed in the inventory of historic and picturesque sites of Paris, the Hotel Schneider is located on the right bank of the Seine, in the 8th arrondissement, between the Pont de l'Alma and the Pont des Invalides. The building, built in the first half of the 19th century in the eclectic style of the Second Empire, underwent major restoration and expansion work around 1900, commissioned by the Schneider family to Ernest Sanson, the favourite architect of the great families of the time. The public will have the opportunity to discover the exterior and interior of this beautiful example of emblematic architecture of Paris, to know its intimate history by visiting its reception rooms, and to appreciate paintings, photographs, tapestries and sculptures by renowned Braz
