The Saint Louis Chapel of the Military School presents a unique collection of paintings depicting the life of Louis IX. It is also marked by the passage of Napoleon I and John Paul II.
Dedicated to Saint Louis, the chapel of the Military School presents a unique collection of nine giant canvases retracing the life of Louis IX. The altar, whose decoration is due to Caffieri, takes the form of a tomb. The communion grid was made by Fayet.
The young Napoleon Bonaparte received there received the damn confirmation in 1785. Open to worship until the Revolution, the chapel then served as a warehouse and was not returned to its normal use until 1950. Pope John Paul II came to pray there on June 2, 1980, during his first visit to France. One can still see the Prie-Dieu on whom he knelt.

Louis XV, at the instigation of the Paris brothers and Madame de Pompadour, set his sights on the plain of Grenelle, a former Garenne, which was part of the Sainte-Geneviève abbey and part of the Hôtel des Invalides in order to create a military school. Ange-Jacques Gabriel was chosen to design and ensure the construction of the buildings. In 1773, the work was completed. The royal courtyard is framed by porticoes with Doric columns on the ground floor and Ionic upstairs. The central body or castle dominates it without ostentation, decorated with colossal Corinthian columns and surmounted by a quadrangular dome. In 1780, the architect Gabriel being 82 years old, the architect Boullée, then the architect Théodore Brongniart who completes the work and finishes in particular the side pavilions of the castle.
