À propos du lieu

Église Saint-Samson
Place du Cloître Saint-Samson 95780 La Roche Guyon
  • Val-d'Oise

Construction of the church of Saint-Samson de La Roche Guyon began in 1404, when King Charles VI granted permission to build a parish church outside the perimeter of the castle. However, work was soon interrupted by the Hundred Years' War, and resumed only in the second quarter of the following century. The church is designed at the base in the flamboyant Gothic style, but as often in the 16th century in the region, the finishes are done in the Renaissance style. Its plan, rather simple, originally provides for only a central vessel of five bays ending with a flat bedside, accompanied by two aisles, the last of which ends with an oblique wall. The bell tower rises above the first bay of the north. The north aisle was rebuilt in the 18th century, and a series of four side chapels was added on the north side. The church of Saint-Samson was listed as a historic monument by order of June 4, 19262\. Today it is affiliated with the pastoral sector of the West Vexin with headquarters in Magny
