Located at the back of the former Episcopal Palace, the garden of the Museum of Modern Art has been completely redesigned as part of the museum’s renovation.
This work was done with the landscapers of Métamorphose. The new garden is inspired by the history of the place and evokes the old vegetable garden of the Episcopal Palace. The hues of the flowers and perennials respond, for their part, to the shimmering colors of the paintings of Marinot and the fauve period of Derain, both major artists of the collections Pierre and Denise Lévy. A place of strolling and relaxation, it is also a sculpture garden, which opens the museum’s path to more contemporary collections. Martine-Martine’s bronzes and the historical repositories of the Centre Pompidou, such as Germaine Richier’s «La Spirale», were screened in their new green setting. Several new depots of the National Center of Plastic Arts complete this journey. «Le Promeneur» by Augustin Cardenas, «Le Baldaquin» by Alain Séchas, «Untitled» by Damien Cabanes or, again, a historical pot by Jean-Pierre Raynaud introduce colour, humour and poetry. Finally, the tour is completed by two works by Parvine Curie resulting from an important donation made by the artist, on the occasion of the renovation of the museum.
