Ville de Châteaudun
This guided tour allows you to discover the most important event in the history of the city, the one that has totally changed its physiognomy.
On June 20, 1723, a terrible fire ravaged the city of Châteaudun, one of the largest fires of the eighteenth century, just three years after that of Rennes. The damage is phenomenal and most of the city is destroyed. Under the impulse of the State a new city plan was drawn up and stone houses were erected throughout the upper town. This new town still constitutes most of the historic centre of Châteaudun.
