Musée de Sologne

The Sologne Museum reveals the secrets of a unique and fascinating territory. You will discover its history, its natural environment, its architecture, its customs and traditions. Let yourself be guided through the Sologne of moors and ponds, dotted with castles and pink brick houses.
During your visit, the city’s prestigious past under the reign of Francis I will be revealed to you. Leonardo da Vinci planned to build in Romorantin, at the request of the king and his mother, Louise de Savoie, a royal city located at the centre of a network of canals and rivers connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea.

À propos du lieu

Musée de Sologne
Moulin du Chapitre, 41200 Romorantin-Lanthenay
  • Loir-et-Cher
  • Centre-Val de Loire
The Sologne Museum’s mission is to preserve, study and present to the public the material and intangible heritage of this territory bordered by the Loire to the north and the Cher to the south. In the Middle Ages, it was divided into three major fiefs: the Count of Blois, the Duchy of Orléans and the Duchy of Berry. It is now divided between three partements: the Loir-et-Cher, the Loiret and the Cher. The decree of September 17, 1941 officially fixed the list of 127 communes composing the Sologne. The Sologne Museum offers visitors keys to understanding to better cover this multifaceted territory. The historical, geological, ethnological and artistic disciplines combine to offer a global vision within the permanent itinerary that will grow throughout the year of temporary exhibitions.
