In 520, Liphard, cousin of Clovis, judge and governor in Orléans, retired as a hermit in Meung-sur-Loire. When he died, his companions erected a monastery around the bishop of Orléans, Marc. The monks cleared the Mauves and planted vines. In 1068, the monastery became a collegiate chapter. In the 12th century, Bishop Manassés built a fortified dwelling attached to the bell tower. After the religious wars, the church was restored (1570). Meung-sur-Loire remained for 12 centuries, the "City of the Bishops". You can see beautiful capitals or a sarcophagus from the 6th century. The chapel of the Virgin dates from the 12th century, a painted wooden altar from the 17th century and an altarpiece from the 18th century.
