Built during the thirteenth century, devastated during the Wars of Religion, the Upstream Gate was rebuilt in 1629\. It was the main door, the door of honor, since it served as a meeting place for the aldermen.
Its defensive character has been altered over time. Large openings were made in the 17th century. There are few traces of the drawbridge, the location of the harrow remains visible. The many arches, or loopholes, are hidden.
From the 13th century, in peacetime, the Porte d'Amont served as a town hall on the 1st floor. The bell, intended to alert in case of attack, is always located in the bell tower
