Château Saint-Hugues
Place Bouthier de Rochefort, 71110 Semur-en-Brionnais
- Saône-et-Loire
- Bourgogne-Franche-Comté
The castle Saint-Hugues, the most old(former) of Bourgogne, keeps(preserves) an exceptional Romanic donjon of the Xth and XIth centuries, its two round towers of defence, its wall and a building(ship) in the front built in the XVIIIth century, the whole rehabilitated for a very interesting visit. From a tower to the other one and of room in room, discover the characteristic medieval military architecture of the X-XIIth centuries: staff rooms, "dungeon", fireplaces, narrow staircases, paintings(paints), engravings... The visit of the castle ends by a permanent exhibition of posters handwritten and printed by French Revolution in Semur and in Brionnais. In a room, a wall family tree redraws ascendants and descendants of the famous Lords of Semur.
