The remains of the castle are located on a spur overlooking the Albarine valley, above the village of Saint-Germain and the fortified house also called the Tower of Gy. This castle is one of the oldest and largest fortified complexes of Ain. Archaeological excavations, already undertaken in the 1970s, have restarted since 2013 to better understand its evolution. The entire castral site was added to the additional inventory of historical monuments in 2017.
