The site of the temple of Aron was discovered in 1977 during the development of an industrial area in Aurillac (ZAC Lescudilier). Archaeologists propose the hypothesis of a fanum (Gallo-Roman temple) built in the 1st century AD and occupied until the end of the 3rd century. The site was then the subject of several rescue excavations and then planned excavations that confirmed the presence of the fanum. On November 20, 1980, it was declared a historical monument. It is on this occasion that is created in Aurillac the S.A.R.A. Society of Archaeology Region of Aurillac, in March 1978, association law of 1901.
