Historical reminder of the forts around Lyon, construction and history of that of St-Priest (many photos) model of the building, small weapons room, sanitation corridor of the powder store
A trapezoidal military structure, built between 1885 and 1895 by General Séré de Rivières (nicknamed the Vauban of the 19th century), part of the defensive belt of the East of Lyon, he was in charge with his neighbours of the sector to protect the Dauphinoise façade of Lyon.
Hybrid building, still made of masonry stones but mostly concrete, specificity not found in other forts, making it more resistant to new explosive shells recently developed.
It was protected at the rear by a metal grille of more than 300m long completely restored, unique in France.
The ditches on the other three sides were protected by escarpment chests (1 double and 1 single) that could fire in a row in the three ditches. They were equipped with formidable 12-cylinder guns and revolver guns.
Overlooking the ditches, a walkway completed the surveillance of the building.
To see, the scale 1 reproduction of a 155 De Bange gun and its under-slope shelter, a model of the fort and its powder store.
