On the occasion of the 40th European Heritage Days, the prefecture of Cantal opens its doors to the public on Saturday, September 16, 2023: visitors will be able to discover these places steeped in history and more particularly the parts usually closed to the public. The first public building designed to be a prefecture, it embodies both the permanence of its missions and the evolution of its action for more than two centuries in the service of citizens.

Faithful to its tradition, the prefecture of Cantal opens its doors on the occasion of the 37th edition of the European Heritage Days.
This visit will allow you to discover places usually closed to the public, from the Courtyard of Honour through the Rotunda, the Minister’s room and the lounges of the Prefectural Hotel, to the Prefect’s office.
These visits will take you on a journey to the heart of time and history in the first prefecture built in France to meet the needs of this new institution in 1800\. You will discover grandiose places with ubiquitous past, and meet the authorities who represent the state in the department.
