Mosquée Othmane

On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the Othmane Mosque in Villeurbanne opens its doors to the public. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover the new layout of the site after three years of expansion work.
This year’s programme includes guided tours focusing on the architecture and history of the Othman Mosque.

Building dating from the 21st century. The association exists since 1984 in the Buers district in urban area in Villeurbanne. Initially, the association found its place of prayer in the premises of the Franciscan sisters of the neighbourhood. In 1995, the association bought a space on Octavie Street near the neighbourhood and settled there. In 2004, the mosque was completely rebuilt. Today, this three-level building includes several prayer rooms and classrooms for teaching Islamic spirituality and science. The interior architecture offers clear and bright spaces, it is also impregnated with Andalus style decoration and Arabesque style wall engravings. This place of worship is dignified and spacious, its exterior architecture offers all the features of a large contemporary mosque.
