The Senegalese Tata is the one and only national necropolis dedicated to the Senegalese skirmishers and the Battle of France of 1940 – a high place of our collective memory. In Senegalese Tata means enclosure of sacred land where dead warriors are buried in battle. In this cemetery, inaugurated on November 8, 1942, rest 188 named or unknown soldiers all from the great Africa and fallen in the battle of Chasselay-Montluzin in June 1940.

The Senegalese Tata is a military cemetery that pays tribute to the colonial soldiers who died for France during the fighting from 19 to 20 June 1940\. It is a unique place in France because of its location, architecture and history. Dead in battle or victims of racist massacres,188 Senegalese riflemen, 2 legionnaires and 6 North African soldiers rest in this African-inspired precinct. The Tata is erected near the place called "Vide Sac" in Chasselay where 50 Senegalese soldiers of the 25th RTS were massacred. National necropolis since 1966, owned by the Ministry of Armed Forces, it is managed by the National Office of Combatants and War Victims.
