The tower of Chamaret is originally a keep built in the 12th century and part of a medieval fortress of which there is also another tower that served as a dovecote in the 16th century. It is in perfect condition and at the top reveals an exceptional 360-degree view of the castle of Grignan, the Pre-Alps, the Baronnies, the Mont Ventoux, the laces of Montmirail, the Alpilles and the mountains of Gard and Ardèche.
A bell and 2 chimes were installed at the top of the tower in the 19th century and we can observe, inside, the mechanism that operates them installed at the same time and that works manually with the help of 3 counterweights.

La tour de Chamaret
Le village 26230 Chamaret
  • Drôme
  • Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
A feudal fortress built between the 12th and 14th centuries. There are two towers left: the dovecote and especially the large tower of 33 meters, very well preserved with an exceptional view on the Drôme provençale and the Vaucluse without forgetting the Gard, the Ardèche and the Bouches du Rhône. Inside the tower is the mechanism that rings the three bells dating from 1894.
