The land of Epeisses is mentioned for the first time in 1286\. The fortified house is the cradle of an eponymous seigneurial lineage attested as early as the twelfth century. It depended on the châtellenie Beaujolaise de Montmelas. Its name seems to mean «The pines» or «The firs» of the word pessetum or pissetum, which means conifers. In the 13th century, the seigneury passed into the hands of the Chameyré family. In the 15th century, it belonged to the Namy, a family of notable Beaujolais. The Chameyré carry their weapons "of azure with the band of gold adjoined by a silver star and a rose of gold" which appear on a door of the noble floor of the tower.
The Namy lineage fell into cattail in the second half of the 17th century. Jeanne de la Forêt, widow of alderman François Tournier, who had owned the neighbouring Lucardière estate since 1651, bought the fortified house and its outbuildings in 1693\.
