Wikipedia

At the top of the hill of Châteauneuf de Mazenc, we find this chapel: Notre Dame du Mont Carmel.Elle was built on the promontory overlooking the fortified town developed below, closely associated with the castle founded in 1095. It is the oldest building preserved in the town, with its remarkable chevet with three apses, characteristic of Provençal Romanesque art. It may have had three vaulted barrel aisles originally, which would have been replaced by one in the 18th century.

It has been known as "Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel" since an unknown date, possibly linked to the existence of a convent of Carmelites in Montélimar. It was previously called "Our Lady of Martholet", after the name of the hill.
