Museums of the Hotel Dieu in Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne
It is with joy that we meet you during the two European Heritage Days, time for professionals and individuals to share their passions, two days for explorers, visitors and walkers can discover hidden treasures during the year, magical gardens and buildings with magical stories, free and open to all. On Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September the Museums of the Hotel Dieu open their doors for free from 10am for these heritage days, closing at 5pm. In the heart of the garden of medicinal plants, an orangery will make you discover the life of Philibert Commerson, 18th century Châtillon naturalist, discoverer of hydrangea and bougainvillea, this year we commemorate the 250 years of its disappearance. You will be able to meet professionals (writers, artists, naturalists, botanists, researchers, historian (nes) ...) and exchange with them about Philibert and Jeanne Barret his companion of the 1st French world tour led by Captain Bougainville.
Throughout the museum, discover Playmobil scenes retracing local history, including Philibert Commerson’s world tour.
At the Museum of Life in Dombes, Marie, a small farmer from the 20th century, introduces us to her time through three life-size scenes illustrating country life. The visits are free.
The Hotel Dieu of the 18th century welcomes us in different rooms, immersing us in the old remedies of yesteryear, in the heart of the plants. The chapel will receive you, classified historical monument by its woodwork, where you can admire the stained glass windows and the room of the sick women. Further on, you will dive into the only apothecary in France where all the pots are identical. In front of this old pharmacy, you will enter the chaplain’s office, with paintings and furniture classified, the parquet of time. In the continuity you will have the Tisanerie with the Tisanier. It faces a tryptic, which in 4 years will blow its 500 candles. Painted in 1527 by Grégoire Guérard.
