The Nouvel Institut Franco-Chinois tells the little-known story of relations between Lyon and China. The historical museum of the Institute dialogue with a contemporary art space to better understand today’s China. Located within the walls of Fort Saint-Irénée, the Franco-Chinese Institute of Lyon welcomed nearly 500 Chinese students between 1921 and 1946\. The museum traces the history of the first Chinese university established outside China. This movement of Franco-Chinese education without equivalent in Europe, born of the historical links that Lyon maintains with the Middle Kingdom, allows to better understand today’s China. An exhibition space dedicated to contemporary art extends this unique relationship by opening up to the young Franco-Chinese artistic creation through 3 temporary exhibitions presented each year.
