THE SAINTE-CHAPELLE OF VIC THE COUNT
At the end of the 15th century, great princely families concerned about their prestige were at the origin of an artistic impetus of exceptional vitality. We then speak of «Renaissance». In Vic the Count, the Scotsman Jean Stuart and his wife Anne de la Tour d'Auvergne built the Sainte-Chapelle, jewel of the French Renaissance.
John Stuart, born in 1484, was the son of the twin brother of the King of Scotland exiled to France. He lived at the court of Charles VIII, Louis XII and then François I. Closer to the kings of France, he knew an extraordinary destiny. From the age of 19, he participated in the wars of Italy led by the French sovereigns. In 1505, at the request of King Louis XII, he married Anne de la Tour d'Auvergne. This union allowed him to become Count of Auvergne. Anne is 8 years old, he is 21\. From 1520, Jean Stuart and Anne de la Tour decided to completely remodel an old Romanesque chapel and erect it as Sainte-Chapelle.
