The Graf Zeppelin, Europe-South America Airline: On July 9, 1928, the LZ 127 was named "Graf Zeppelin" (Graf means "Count" in German). The first flight of the LZ 127 took place on 18 September 1928. It became the largest flying object in the world. It was capable of carrying 20 passengers and had a crew of 38 to 40. Until its retirement in 1937, the LZ 127 made 590 trips, 126 of which were to Brazil and South America. It is during certain flights that the Graf Zeppelin will come to Montélimar to take the mail to South America. The LZ 127 Graf zeppelin in Montélimar: On the 12th of August 1936, the inhabitants of Montélimar head towards the airfield in the early afternoon to witness the passage of the Graf Zeppelin. With a length of 236.6 m and a diameter of 30.5 m, this air giant contains 105,000 m3 of hydrogen. Going to South America, the airship must take the bags of mail to Natal (Brazil). These mail recovery operations in Montélimar are the consequence of the Spanish war.
The exhibition was set up in the "school shed", and it allows visitors to discover photos and explanations of this giant of the air as well as to watch a short video that allows to explore the interior of the device! Presentation of the Exhibition
