XVIITH - XXTH centuries The Opera of Lyons is at origin a theatre conceived(designed) by Soufflot. Destroyed in 1756 by a fire, it is rebuilt in 1831, place de la Comédie, by Chenavard and Pollet; but the necessity of a deep intervention stands out in 1980s. The cabinet(office) " Nouvel et associés " is prize-winner of the competition(help), thrown(launched) by the City of Lyons in 1986, to conceive(design) modifications. The theatre made the object of a space direction(fabrication) in the internal volume: it is hanging. The stage(scene) measures from now on 670 square metres and the pit for the orchestra(band) is adjustable. The vault, real glass roof of half cylindrical shape, stood out in a few years as a strong element of urban landscape of Lyon. It contains parallel small strips of glass silk-screened in white on both faces, what makes vibrate the bright atmosphere according to the state of the sky. She(It) is also heightened with regard to(compared with) the ridge line of the old(former) facades, what brings to light the old(former) sculptures of the Muses in main facade. The internal lighting, realised by Yann Kersalé, is the most interesting. The black was chosen for internal arrangement(development) and red for the vault and the peristyle. Inaugurated in May, 1993, "New" opera became «national Opera of Lyons» in 1996; he(it) appears from now on among the emblematic buildings(ships) of the XXth century in Lyons.
