13 chronological sequences, introduced by an emblematic object of the city, mark the route of the Museum of History of Marseille, from the first prehistoric occupations to contemporary urban developments. They unfold through a thread of Ariane that is that of the history of the port, around the archaeological site of the ancient Port, a veritable open-air exhibition room of the museum, which presents the results of the first large-scale urban archaeological excavation in France (1967-1983). Its recent redevelopment allowed the development of the remains of the ancient port of Marseille and the various fortifications of the city dating from several eras.
