Guided tour of Mont-Dauphin
Located on a vast rocky promontory overlooking the valleys of Guil and Durance, the fortified village of Mont-Dauphin testifies to the power of Louis XIV.
The team will take you on a tour of this mountain stronghold listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for the fortifications of Vauban.
The circuit includes outdoor stops (ditches, fortifications) and a visit to the interior of the former military buildings (Arçon telescope and its underground, arsenal, powder magazine, attic of the Rochambeau barracks).
It allows you to discover the amazing history of the Place Forte de Mont-Dauphin and to understand the formidable defensive system designed by Vauban.
Unusual elements of Mont-Dauphin are to be discovered during these guided tours such as the 113-metre-long underground tunnel of the Arçon telescope, which allowed soldiers to discreetly reach this element of fortification essential to the defense of the site.
The Mont-Dauphin stronghold is home to other treasures, such as the Philibert Delorme structure of the Rochambeau barracks, as well as a plan-relief of the stronghold, nearly 4 metres in span.
