The Regional Audit Board, a financial authority set up in 1983 with decentralisation, controls local authorities, inter-municipal authorities and hospitals in the region, 3,000 bodies to be audited, and over €30 billion in operating revenue. It can also audit mixed economy corporations or associations funded by these communities. Its reports are public. The chamber also has a task of budgetary control, upon referral to the prefect, and may challenge, by its judgments, the responsibility of public accountants. It transmits to the judicial prosecutors irregularities liable to criminal qualifications. With the Court of Auditors and other regional chambers, the chamber participates each year in several investigations on public policies with strong local stakes: the establishment of metropolises, child protection, the evaluation of the attractiveness of priority neighborhoods, municipal police..."
