The European Heritage Days are an opportunity to see or review all the exhibitions of the Mucem in open access, but also to better understand the architectural heritage of the J4 and Fort Saint-Jean, as you stroll through the museum’s outdoor spaces.

The MuCEM is interested in the civilizations of Europe and the Mediterranean and studies their history to understand contemporary phenomena, with a constant concern to cross views and disciplines. More than a place of exhibitions of works and objects, it is a true cultural city, a place of life and plural expressions. Meetings and debates, shows, concerts, cinema and archive screenings complete the museum’s daily offer. The MuCEM is a large complex consisting of three sites, spread over 40,000m2, from the end of the quay of the port to the Belle de Mai, in the center of Marseille. On the courtyard and garden side, between town and sea, are Fort Saint-Jean and the building of the J4 pier, which host the major exhibitions, the weekly meetings and the highlights of the MuCEM. A place of memory and history, from the Greek city to the great migrations of the 21st century, the location of the MuCEM, at the bow of the city, is symbolic.
