The Departmental Archives of Vaucluse have been installed since 1883 in the northern part of the Popes Palace (14th century Gothic palace). It was occupied, before and since the Revolution, by departmental prisons. It was Pope Benedict XII who had Pierre Poisson build the first palace that is now called the Old Palace, on the site of the episcopal palace.
