Logis de la chabotterie
La Chabotterie, 85260 Saint-Sulpice-le-Verdon
Established on the site of a fortress destroyed during the Hundred Years' War, built essentially in two stages (a dwelling XV° to which is attached to the North an imposing square pavilion at the beginning of the XVII°), modified substantially in XVIII° and XIX°, this manor is best known for having been involved on several occasions in major historical events for the Vendée: Wars of Religion, arrest of the Chevalier de Charette in 1796\. Of its rather heterogeneous architecture, we remember especially the very elaborate elevation of the staircase tower XVII°. It has become one of the emblematic places of the Vendée War and is converted into a museum, dedicated to the reconstruction of rural interiors of the 18th century.
