It is in the fortified house of the orchard, property of Pierre de Rohan Guéméné, Marshal of France, called «the Marshal of Gié», that was negotiated the treaty of the orchard which put an end in 1488 to the war between Brittany and France, and which allowed the marriage in 1491 of Anne of Brittany with the King of France Charles VIII. The Marshal of Gié then built on this site, between 1492 and 1506, one of the most beautiful castles erected at the end of the fifteenth century. From 1776 to 1783, the castle was dismantled by the Cardinal de Rohan for the resale of materials. Imposing remains of the huge castle are still visible: machicolation towers, ditches, moat, fence wall of the park and stables, old prioral house and 16th century building.
Listed under Historical Monuments.
Free visit outside the buildings, with documents on the history and architecture of the castle, and its evolution until today.
Walk in a part of the park being restored, and on the banks of the Loir. Other walks nearby in the forest of Boudré.
