Guided Tour of the Shooting Career
In this career, 27 men were shot on 22 October 1941 in retaliation for the execution of Lieutenant-Colonel Karl Hotz in Nantes. On the same day, 21 other hostages were shot among the 50 names required by the German authorities. Today the quarry of the shot, a listed historic site, pays homage to these martyrs of the first hour. A memorial trail with a series of 27 steles highlights the portraits of these men who died for France. The sculpture of Antoine Rohal, recently restored, expresses the solidarity and courage of "Ceux de Châteaubriant". Inscribed under the title of Historical Monuments, its pedestal incorporates 185 alveoli containing land harvested from the places of resistance and deportation of France and Europe.
