Jacques de La Grandière

On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the Château de la Grandière opens its doors Sunday 18 September 2022 from 2pm to 6pm. You can discover the castle and the vegetable garden accompanied by the owners of the place.

A little bit of history:

The children of Jacques and Marie-Christine de La Grandière represent the 35th generation of the family on Grez Neuville’s land. There are traces of a feudal motte dating from the 12th century and located in the Grandière wood a few kilometers from the current castle. The courtyard of honour is surrounded by a moat of water, the access of which is protected by a 16th century entrance châtelet which served as a drawbridge. Rebuilt shortly before the revolution by Palamède de La Grandière, the main house (18th century) is decorated with a central violin-shaped forebody. Raised from a porch, the entrance vestibule distributes on each side by a string of reception rooms including a large lantern lounge, a small living room, a dining room and a library. See also this beautiful example of a staircase decorated with a ramp inscribed in the Additional Inventory of Historical Monuments. Four-poster room on the 1st floor. The park of 23 ha, partly wooded, is embellished with raised paths that frame the moat including a plank of boxwood planted in 1780, rotunda of charms at the corners, lime trees cut in landings above buffets of charm, avenues lined with plane trees cut into vaults or bicentenary oaks. We can observe a project of French-style flowerbeds designed from a double revolution staircase in the middle of the boxwood alley. Beautiful riding lane (1 km) at the foot of the water tower. Finally, a walled vegetable garden (1 ha) with a greenhouse allows the hostess to practice her talents for growing flowers, fruits and vegetables including 35 varieties of tomatoes.
