Inrap archaeologists are conducting a preventive excavation on the island of Poulas in Mauges-sur-Loire, as part of the work to re-balance the bed of the Loire by Voies navigables de France. They uncovered many remains, including wooden elements from 12th century fisheries. As part of this important work on the Loire, two other excavations are being carried out by Inrap simultaneously on Île Coton and Île aux Moines, delivering other remains, including wrecks of 17th-century Ligian boats. On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the site of the Poulas will be exceptionally open to the public. On the program: guided tours of the site commented by archaeologists, numerous animations for all audiences around archaeology and its professions, an exhibition on the archaeology of the Loire and an artistic installation by Pascal Proust: the stopover consists of nearly 500 moving “bird” sculptures. The days are proposed by Inrap and VNF, in partnership with the Rable, the Grafo, Les petits bateaux ligériens and with the support of the Mauges-sur-Loire town hall. All public, free.
