Built in the Neoclassical style, it was built from 1862 to 1866 to replace the former Royal Palace located on Place du Marché. The façade is framed by two statues representing Justice and the Law, works by Adolphe David, born in Baugé in 1828, also sculptor of the fountain of King René. The fronton bears the inscription «Tribunal d'instance» recalling that Baugé was the chief district town. The interior has retained its paintings and decoration from the time of Napoleon III. At the rear of the Tribunal, the prison was put into service in 1864 and functioned until 1951\. The interior buildings were completely demolished in 1980 and replaced by the Cultural Centre. Only the wall remains today.
