In 1662, the Jesuits of Bordeaux had the church of Saint-Paul built from 1662 to 1673 on the site of the Mairerie. On May 22, 1676, it was consecrated to Saint Francis Xavier by Monsignor Henri de Béthune, then archbishop of Bordeaux. The nave has five vaulted bays of edges, the side chapels communicate with each other and the tribune surmounts the entrance. The choir is decorated with a remarkable high altar with glory and baldachin, it is a group sculpted in marble by William II Coustou between 1741 and 1748.
In 1992, the Dominican brothers, present in Bordeaux since 1221, settled in rue des Ayres and Saint-Paul became their church. In the same year, the church was inscribed with the title of Historical Monuments and was classified in September 1997.
