À propos du lieu

Temple maçonnique
14 rue du Docteur Gaston Simounet, 24100 Bergerac

The first Masonic organization appeared in 1717 in London from where it spread in England then in Paris in 1726 and in Bordeaux in 1732 with the "English Lodge" then the "Perfect Harmony". It was the latter who created in 1747 the "Bergerac Lodge" the first lodge of Dordogne which took the name of "The Fidelity" in 1766.The Masonic presence in Bergerac was thus almost 3 centuries.
Freemasonry brings together men and women who share the same philosophical and spiritual research and pursue the same ideal. It is concretely revealed by buildings that, discreetly or not, are part of the urban landscape. If Bergerac has no more traces of its first installation in the eighteenth century, its temple stands for more than a hundred years, rue Simounet, formerly rue Thiers in a building specially built for this purpose.
For more than a hundred years, the curious walker can notice one of the most famous symbols of the Freemasonry that surmounts the building: a gable in the shape of a triangle. Oth
