A monument in peril, the church of Notre-Dame-de-Lorette suffers from having been built on a source that weakens its southern foundations. An association was created in 2022 to animate this place, make it known and collect funds for its protection. The work is estimated at two million euro.
The commented visit of the history of the sanctuary will take you in the second half of the thirteenth century, starting with the construction of a primitive cave, called «queen’s cave», by Eléonore de Provence, following the appearance to two young shepherds of a lady dressed in white beside a bush or sinking a spring. The rest of the tour will take you through the construction of the upper church in 1864 with magnificent stained glass windows by Joseph Villiet in 1866 and Jacque Leuzy in 1950. An important place of pilgrimages until around 1980, this sanctuary is one of the rare sites built on two levels
