Saint-Seurin Basilica, a minor basilica, is probably the cradle of Bordeaux Christianity. From the vast Romanesque edifice of the 11th century, there is still the porch, the bedside, the crypt and the base of the bell tower.
From the 11th century, the return of peace facilitated the renewal of the church and marked the beginning of a great monastic impulse, as evidenced by the Basilica of Saint Seurin.
Founded in the sixth century, it was erected near the church of Saint-Étienne, the first cathedral of Bordeaux, as well as the vast necropolis of the same period. It was in the eleventh century that the construction of the Romanesque church was undertaken, making it a stage of the pilgrimage of Santiago de Compostela, then in its infancy. From this first collegiate church, there remain the remains of the crypt and the bell tower-porch. It was rebuilt from the end of the 12th century and chapels were added between the 14th and 16th centuries. The basilica has many sculpted works, Meroving
