Visit the National Academy of Sciences, Belles-Lettres and Arts of Bordeaux
In the Hotel des Sociétés Savantes of the 19th century, this tour will introduce you to the history, heritage, organization, activities and manuscripts of the place.
This free visit will allow you to admire a beautiful example of Bordeaux mansion of the nineteenth century with its grand staircase, its salons and its library and to get to know the National Academy of Sciences, Belles-Lettres and Arts of Bordeaux, founded in 1712, with its rich heritage, paintings of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, including a portrait of Montesquieu classified historical monument, busts, engravings, decorative objects, medals...
The salons include the Academicians' Salon and two large salons: woodwork, fireplaces, ice, ceilings are period (mid 19th century). A slideshow will scroll on the screens of the salons presenting the history of the 310 years of the Academy, the famous academicians, the organization and activities of the Academy today (Members, sessions, publications, awards). In the library will be presented and commented collections of works and memoirs of academics in the nineteenth century. Academicians will be present to answer questions from visitors who will be able to take a former annual publication of the Academy free of charge and register to receive invitations to public sessions.
