The Prefectural Hotel is located in the former Episcopal Palace of Agen. The latter partially collapsed on July 22, 1773, the bishop of the city, a lover of art, decided to build a new episcopal palace, near the major seminary, on the plans of the architect Leroy who was rebuilding the castle of Aiguillon. The building changed destination at the Revolution to become the seat of the central schools, then of the fourth cohort of the Legion of Honour and, in 1809, the hotel of the prefecture of Lot-et-Garonne.
