Travel to discover the medieval past of the Gironde, highlighted by 3 contemporary photographers.

From the tip of the estuary to the beginning of the Landes, the Middle Ages left on the territory of Gironde many traces of a Romanesque heritage of fine craftsmanship.
These stone-witnesses especially present in the interior contain masterpieces of which the abbey of La Sauve-Majeure, «lighthouse» of the Entre-deux-Mers, is emblematic by its rich sculpture.
With the support of the department, Nicolas Camoisson, Lou Chaussalet and Bruce Milpied, three contemporary photographers gathered in the collective Cdanslaboîte, left on the way to locate the remains of this millenary heritage.
From this commission-reportage, they have been able to make work of creation, and bring back to us their points of view that regenerate a past always full of beauty and vitality. Come discover their works reproduced in large format in the park of the abbey.
Open daily from 8 July to 6 November 2022 (except Mondays from October).

Abbaye de La Sauve-Majeure

A masterpiece of 12th-century Romanesque art, this former Benedictine abbey was an active and well-known religious centre. The whole that remains offers the gaze of admirable capitals where the biblical representations adjoin the monsters coming from the depths of the ages or from the far east. From the top of its bell tower, the view is impressive on the village and the landscape. The remarkable remains of this open-air site are a testimony of religious architecture in the heart of the Entre-deux-Mers.
