As part of the 500th anniversary of the first circumnavigation around the globe by the Basque navigator Juan Sebastián Elkano, the cities of Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Ciboure are celebrating this event.
On this occasion, and in partnership with the Elkano Foundation, a type of boat called Patache moves from port to port from Biscay to Labourd and becomes for the occasion an ambassador of the Basque maritime culture. An open-air exhibition on the journey of Elkano and the maritime history of the towns and cities of this commemoration will be presented successively on both sides of the port.
