From prehistory to the present day, Arudy City of Stone

In our village, the marble stone of Arudy is omnipresent. The Magdalenians used it as a shelter, today’s men continue to shape it for buildings, decoration and art.

Village d'Arudy

The first men of the valley lived in its caves and left traces of their passage (paintings, objects, arts…). The village was also an important centre for marble extraction. Several quarries are still active in the town. The Museum presents the history and archaeology of the region as well as an exhibition on the Pyrenees National Park and the marble of Ossau.
The pretty old houses with inscriptions and architectural decorations can be discovered through the signposts.
Arudy is now the most populous village in the Ossau Valley. It houses the headquarters of the Ossau Valley Community of Communes.
