Jardin botanique du château
Château, Vauville, 50440 La Hague
Create by Eric and Nicole Pellerin in 1947, the exceptional botanical gardens of the castle of Vauville occupy more than 40 000 m ². Sheltering more than 900 sorts(species) of the southern hemisphere, the garden surrounds the castle of Vauville in a completely surprising subtropic atmosphere. Garden in perpetual evolution, fruit of a lot of work, science and passion, the botanical gardens of Vauville, in spite of a blowed site, shelters successfully many Mediterranean sorts(species) in form of a spontaneous natural garden. The most strong vegetables were massively associated to train(form) hedges(hurdles) windbreak to shelter the most delicate plants. The running water of the old(former) stream which fed the fields of origin is used in different ponds where royal crinums osmondes and aquatic plants grow without restraint. Bamboos, palm trees, phormius, brackens, gunneras in the huge sheets(leaves), accentuate the change of scenery of the visitor. In spite of violence and persistence of the winds of the West representing certain disability, the Atlantic north drift of the gulf-stream warms this northwest coast(rib) of Hague creating a climate favorable to the acclimatisation of unusual plants under this degree of latitude. In the botanical gardens of Vauville plants grow naturally, without constraints, in a visible(apparent) poetic riot. Succession of rooms(chambers) of greenery, benefiting from an original orientation, turned(shot) in 180 ° on the quite close sea, the botanical gardens of Vauville, besides a recognised scientific collection, trains(forms) the original case of the castle of Vauville, jewel of the architecture of the North Cotentin. The botanical gardens of Vauville were registered on the additional Inventory of Historic monuments in 1992\.
