The power centre of the Néel, the first viscounts of the Cotentin, the castle of Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte also played a decisive role in the Hundred Years War, during the time of the hot knight Geoffroy d'Harcourt. The building retains part of its fortified enclosure, flanked by towers and dominated by an imposing keep, built in the 14th century by King Edward III of England.
