Exhibition: Michel Anguier, sculptor of the Roy at the time of Molière
The sculpture workshop Fontaine de la Mare commemorates the 400 + 10 years of the birth of the sculptor Michel Anguier in Eu (Seine-Maritime) on September 28, 1612, active under the two reigns of Louis XIII and Louis XIV.
Did he meet Molière, of whom he was the eldest of 10? We are not sure, but both worked for Nicolas Fouquet and Louis XIV.
In addition, Molière was a friend of the painter Pierre Mignard, who decorated the dome of the church of Val-de-Grâce in Paris whose sculptures were made by Michel Anguier. Molière wrote a long poem for this dome dedicated to painting.
This modest and first exhibition on Michel Anguier presents old engravings of his creations including his famous Amphitrite - with a lobster on his arm-, a vintage print of his engraved portrait and the various works devoted to him and his brother François, also sculptor and native of the city of Eu.
