The master of impressionism who influenced a generation of avant-garde painters found a special echo among his relatives. His daughter-in-law, Blanche, Théodore Earl Butler, married successively to two of his daughters-in-law Marthe and Suzanne, and Jim Butler, Butler’s younger son, embraced a pictorial vocation.
If the saga addresses family relationships and turpitudes, the artistic intention of the exhibition lies in the relationship between its four personalities. Gathered under the influence of the patriarch, these artists have developed a unique style that characterizes them. Thus, the works presented are matched, allowing to highlight, at the same time, the links that unite them and the differences of treatment, both in form and content.
This exhibition echoes the richness of our collections, where these artists are presented permanently throughout the year. An opportunity to continue the visit upstairs to discover other masterpieces…
