The Hotel de Marle, an architectural jewel of the late 16th century acquired more than 50 years ago by the Swedish state, presents unique architectural details such as its main staircase, painted ceiling or its 'Philibert Delorme' inverted roof. Guided tours allow you to discover them.
Practical information: Continuous guided tours. 3 departures per hour between 14:00 and 17:20 (last departure). Duration: 20-25 min.

The Hotel de Marle is the only cultural centre that Sweden has abroad. In 1965, the then very dilapidated building was acquired by the Swedish state. The restoration work was carried out by architects René Duval, Yves de Tonquédec and Claude Charpentier, under the leadership of the Commission du Vieux Paris. The Swedish Institute, now including the Tessin Institute, opened its doors in 1971\. The Hôtel de Marle presents unique details such as its inverted hull frames, its main staircase and its painted ceiling on the first floor. The facade, the roof and the main staircase have been included in the supplementary inventory of historical monuments since 1961\. The so-called Philibert Delorme frame dating from the second half of the 16th century was in an advanced state of degradation and was replaced identically at the time of the restoration of the 1960s. This frame represents one of the most valuable examples of light framing of the mid-16th century, and probably unique in Paris. The l
